What does the acronym AGAPE stand for and what is the organization trying to achieve?
The acronym AGAPE stands for “A Gateway to Advocacy, Perseverance, and Education for and of the Blind.” Our mission is to serve as a role model to newly blind or visually impaired individuals and help them find their place in society and to enlist legally blind individuals to become actively involved in the legislating of health, education, and earning opportunities for the blind.
How does AGAPE help the community?
AGAPE provides a platform for the community by providing Education of and for the blind, information about scholarships, adaptive technology, and utility assistance. AGAPE provides the community with an opportunity to advocate for blindness issues.
What are some of the services AGAPE provide?
Members of AGAPE are eligible for various grants (utility assistance, adaptive technology, travel reimbursements, etc.) education, scholarships, advocacy, and social interaction with individuals that share the same struggles. This creates a bond among other visually impaired individuals. AGAPE also offers spiritual enrichment through a weekly prayer line and other activities. As a member of AGAPE, you become a member of the Missouri Council of the Blind (MCB) and the American Council of the Blind (ACB).
